Monday 12 February: The latter half of last week saw tidal surges in central India, feeding the region with drizzle. While much of the fog woes have passed, rain will continue to fall on the central states, with a new player emerging: hail.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a depression remains from southern interior Karnataka to western Vidarbha. This system will be effective in creating rainy weather this week over central India.

Under the influence of a trough, light to moderate rains will inundate some parts of Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on Monday (February 12) and eastern Madhya Pradesh till Tuesday (February 12-13). Lightning-filled thunderstorms and gusty winds may also continue to add a little spice to these rainy spots.

As for the prominent cities, no rain is expected in Bhopal and Indore, with fog in Madhya Pradesh cities during this week. While some light thundershowers may affect Raipur today, only fog and fog are expected over the Chhattisgarh capital for the rest of the week. Meanwhile, Nagpur district in Vidarbha may witness some thunder and lightning on Monday and Tuesday, according to IMD data.

As mentioned above, Snow storms Cyclones are also expected to make landfall in some pockets of eastern Madhya Pradesh, eastern Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh on Monday. While most parts of the country are witnessing a gradual rise in temperatures, central India has been spared the same, likely due to the ongoing spell of rainfall in the region.

Instead of the above weather, IMD has put East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Orange alert (meaning “be prepared”) on Monday, and is scheduled to turn a Yellow watch (meaning “it is updated”). a Yellow watch It also sits above Vidarbha today.

It remains to be seen whether continued rains will lift our central states out of their current rainfall deficiency. Between February 1 and 10, Madhya Pradesh managed to accumulate just 1.5 mm of rain (67% below normal of 4.5 mm), Chhattisgarh collected 0.3 mm (91% below normal of 3.5 mm) and Vidarbha received 1.1 mm (63 % less than normal (3 mm normal).
