In a recent interview on CNN, former Obama White House counsel David Axelrod set the record straight on the speculation surrounding Michelle Obama's potential candidacy in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Speaking with host Michael Smerconish, Axelrod strongly rejected the idea that Michelle Obama would seek to replace Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.
Axelrod, who has a long-standing relationship with the Obama family, highlighted Michelle Obama's long-standing lack of interest in politics.
“She was never interested in politics. Even when Barack Obama was a young politician, she didn't participate much in his campaigns. I was with him on a Senate campaign in 2004, and I think she showed up twice in the entire campaign on election nights. So, you know, She's not a person who likes politics: “She doesn't like the tone and content of politics,” Axelrod said.
Addressing speculation that Michelle Obama might step in to replace President Joe Biden for Democrats in 2024, Axelrod strongly denied the idea.
“I would be shocked if she agreed to that. They feel like they gave 10 years of their lives to this. And I'm sure she feels the same way as Barbara Bush did when she said there should be someone other than the Bushes and the Clintons who could become president of the United States.” “I think that's her position,” Axelrod said.
