A somewhat subjective assessment of today's weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: Cloudy and cool with rain from morning until midday. Intermittent evening showers can't be ruled out, but there's nothing that would disrupt heading to or from Super Bowl parties.

    • today: Partly cloudy, with rain from morning until midday. Highs: upper 40s to low 50s.
    • Tonight: Lots of clouds, spotty showers? Lows: High 30s to low 40s.
    • tomorrow: Partly cloudy, with increased chances of rain in the evening. Highs: upper 40s to near 50s.

A less-than-win forecast to close out the weekend after a mostly dry and mild Saturday. The weather today will be mostly cloudy and noticeably cold with some rain, especially this morning. The next forecaster will bring mostly rain late Monday into early Tuesday, when some locations could see near or more than an inch of rain, perhaps ending with a few snowflakes. We may have to monitor isolated areas for flooding.

today is Sunday): Scattered showers this morning and into the early afternoon should not be too heavy but may change to more consistent light rain for a while. Then there is a little chance of intermittent showers after 2pm or so. Rainfall totals could reach a tenth to a quarter of an inch with the highest amounts south of the capital and lowest amounts north. (Frederick and Carroll counties may see only a few spotty morning showers.) Otherwise, the weather will be mostly cloudy and cool with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s and light winds from the north. Confidence: average

Tonight: Many clouds with some intermittent rain are still possible in the evening. Lows drop into the upper 30s to low 40s. Confidence: average

Tomorrow (Monday): The morning should be mostly cloudy but dry. Some light rain is likely during the afternoon as low pressure approaches from the south. Daytime highs reach the upper 40s and approaching 50. More rain could move in from the north after 5pm or so. Confidence: average

Tomorrow night: The rain turns to a more consistent rain during the evening with heavy rain at times during the night. Temperatures drop back into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Confidence: medium-high

It's a wet start to Tuesday In the morning before precipitation moves out to the northeast around 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A few snowflakes may mix in during the morning as cold air moves overhead. But temperatures near the ground should remain at least several degrees above freezing, so we don't expect any accumulation. Winds will become a breeze from the northwest, near or above 30 mph, with daytime highs in the low to mid 40s. Confidence: average

Wednesday It looks mostly sunny and seasonable with highs in the mid to upper 40s and a lingering breeze. Confidence: medium-high

A daily assessment of the likelihood of at least one inch of snow falling in the coming week, on a scale of 0 to 10.

1/10 (→): It's not cold enough for snow accumulation early Tuesday, and I'm not sure we'll see snowflakes mixing with the rain. There may be a chance of snow on Presidents Day weekend, but that's too remote to discuss.

Dan Stillman contributed to this prediction.
