Indian batsman Virat Kohli will miss the rest of the Test series against England due to personal reasons.
The 35-year-old former captain had previously withdrawn from the first two Tests.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Saturday that Kohli will also miss the remaining three Tests.
The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced in a statement that “Virat Kohli will remain unavailable for selection for the rest of the series due to personal reasons.”
“The Board fully respects and supports Mr. Kohli’s decision.”
When he missed the first two Tests, the board said “certain personal situations required his full presence and attention”.
Kohli, who played 113 Tests for India, stands fourth on his list of all-time top run-scorers with 8,848.
The series is level at 1-1 with three matches remaining, starting with the third Test in Rajkot on Thursday, February 15.
Kohli, who captained the team in 68 Tests between 2014 and 2022, has not missed a Test for India in over two years, the last time he did so when he was ruled out of a match against South Africa in Johannesburg due to a back spasm in January 2022. .
India won the second Test by 106 runs in Visakhapatnam on Monday to level the series.
Batter Shreyas Iyer, who played in the first two Tests, also did not feature in the 17-man squad named for the rest of the series.
Spinner Ravindra Jadeja and batsman KL Rahul, who played in the first Test, have returned to the team but will play only “subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI medical team”, the board added.
There is also a call-up for off-spinner Akash Deep.
