Weather Watch: Rain forecast for Mardi Gras weekend

Published at 5:01 PM Thursday, February 8, 2024

The weather pattern in southwest Louisiana is becoming “increasingly unstable,” with several disturbances bringing occasional periods of rain and storms, according to the National Weather Service's Lake Charles office.

Rain is expected on Saturday and Sunday.

“There is a risk of heavy rain on Saturday with greater potential across northern and central Louisiana into east-central Texas, and a risk of severe weather across the region on Sunday,” the agency said.

Lake Charles has a 40-80 percent chance of rain on Saturday and a 50-90 percent chance on Sunday. Temperatures on both days are expected to be in the mid-70s.

    Damaging winds are possible.
