Major winter storms wreaked havoc across the United States on Tuesday

Every state except North Dakota was under some type of alert Tuesday as strong storms moved across the United States

Welcome to FOX Weather's daily weather update. It's Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Start your day with everything you need to know about today's weather. You can also get a quick summary of national, regional and local weather whenever you want with the FOX Weather Update podcast.

Bad weather hits the southeast of the country on Tuesday

A powerful system moves across the southern and eastern United States on Tuesday, bringing the threat of severe weather and heavy rain to the Southeast.

Damage from a suspected tornado was reported early Tuesday morning near Panama City, Florida. Severe thunderstorms also produced 106 mph winds at Ed Walline Beach Access near Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, just before 4:30 a.m. CDT.

Storms will continue to move eastward from southern Alabama into Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, bringing tornado threats, damaging winds and large hail.

A blizzard hits the Midwest with snow and high winds

The snowstorm that caused several crashes and closed major highways in the Plains on Monday will move into the Midwest on Tuesday.

Blizzard Watches and Winter Storm Warnings are posted as high winds will mix with heavy snow as this storm makes its way across the central United States.

Widespread power outages are expected in the northeast

As a strong winter system continues in the United States, widespread power outages are expected across the Northeast later Tuesday and into Wednesday, as high winds and flooding rain batter the region.

    Flood threat in Hawaii

Flood warnings continue for Hawaii as there is concern about flash flooding on flood-prone roads and low-lying areas again on Tuesday. High waves and rough seas have already created problems for the Aloha State.

More storms hit the Pacific Northwest

A bomb cyclone is expected to hit the West as the area has been a highway for storms over the past week.

Blizzard, winter storm and high wind warnings continue in the West where some areas could see feet of snow.
