As a river-fed weather storm continues to dump a generous amount of rain on Southern California, Southland counties are under several severe weather advisories due to incoming thunderstorms and potential flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, the following alerts are in effect:

    Los Angeles County

Flash flood warningThrough 3 a.m. Thursday – 0.5 to 1 inch of rain is likely to fall within 45 minutes in some areas of the county. Areas that may be most affected by this warning include Chatsworth, Northridge, Santa Monica, Hollywood, downtown Los Angeles, and more.

Severe thunderstorm warninguntil 8:45 p.m. Wednesday – Many communities from Inglewood to Thousand Oaks can expect thunderstorms that will likely produce isolated gusts up to 70 mph.

Flood warning, until 1 a.m. Thursday – Heavy rain could lead to flooding in much of Los Angeles County. The NWS urges drivers to take extra precautions on the road and avoid driving through flooded roads. According to the agency, most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Flood watchuntil midnight Thursday – Hills and foothill areas, such as the Hollywood Hills, San Gabriel Mountains, Puente Hills and other similar areas, face the risk of flooding due to heavy rainfall.

High waves warning, through 12 p.m. Friday – All county beaches, Catalina Island and the Malibu Coast are experiencing waves that could reach 5 to 8 feet. Minor coastal flooding is also possible. Rip currents also pose a risk to swimmers and surfers, so it's best to avoid the sea if possible.

Severe thunderstorm warninguntil 8:45 p.m. Wednesday – East Ventura faces bands of rain that could bring winds up to 70 mph.

Flood warning, through 11 p.m. Wednesday – Thanks to heavy rain, some areas of Ventura County should brace for flooding. Areas potentially affected include: Ojai, Oxnard, Camarillo, and more.

Coastal flood warningthrough 12 noon Friday – Waves will likely peak at 7 to 10 feet thanks to the storm, and strong rip currents pose a danger to swimmers and surfers.

Evacuation orders and warnings were issued Sunday in Ventura County due to a slow-moving storm that caused flooding threats.

    Orange County

Flood watchThrough 6 a.m. Thursday – Foothills and coastal areas in Orange County may experience flooding due to the storm. According to the NWS, “Excessive runoff may lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, creeks, and other low-lying, flood-prone locations. Floods may occur in areas of poor drainage.”

    San Bernardino County

Flood watch, until 6 a.m. Thursday – NWS warns that widespread rain will lead to flooding in the mountains of San Bernardino County. “Hourly rainfall rates range from 0.30 to 0.40 inches per hour, and are locally expected to reach 0.50 inches per hour. This additional rain falling on already saturated soil will increase the potential for flooding, especially if training occurs,” the National Weather Service said. Cells during heavy rain.
