Jordan Love's breakout year helped the Green Bay Packers win six of their final eight regular season games before reaching the playoffs. Slipping under the radar was the offensive line play.
The Packers' starting five overcame some early season challenges to keep Love upright down the stretch.
In his last 10 games, including the playoffs, Love has been sacked just 11 times, including zero in postseason contests against the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.
Right guard John Runyan Jr. played a crucial role along the offensive line. Runyan has started every game since the first week of the 2021 season but faces an uncertain future, with his contract expiring next month.
Runyan made it clear during his final locker room interview last month that he wants to return to Green Bay, but that's not guaranteed with free agency looming in March.
On Radio Row, the former sixth-round pick took time to discuss his future and the free agency process.
“It's been fun. It's been exciting. I have no idea what to expect. I'm just taking it step by step and letting things happen,” Runyan said. “I think I've put together a good resume for myself over the last four years. I'll let that speak for itself.”
It's unclear if the Packers will offer Runyan a new deal, but he appears to be preparing for the possibility of playing elsewhere in 2024.
“Being a part of this experience on Super Bowl Radio Row, I'm putting myself out there a little bit, trying to meet as many people as I can and see where it goes,” Runyan said.
Runyan has provided years of steady, consistent play along the offensive line, rarely making mistakes. He should have no problem getting a starting job elsewhere if he doesn't reach a new deal with the Packers.
If he leaves, guard will become a big area of need for the Packers this offseason. Sean Ryan will be the favorite to start at right guard, but the team will lack depth behind the starters.
Runyan is doing everything he can on the field and has not missed a game since becoming a starter in 2021. It would be great to see him back in Green Bay this offseason, but Runyan understands the business and knows he may need to explore his options.
