And in what should have been the easiest of all efforts to hold someone in the Biden administration accountable — the attempt to fire Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas — Republicans continued their established tradition of failure.
In one of the most embarrassing displays in recent memory, the vote to impeach Mayorkas for facilitating the worst border crisis this nation has ever seen fell by a vote of 214 to 216.
As usual, Democrats remained united and supportive of the border invasion, voting simultaneously to support the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. But four Republicans voted with them: Reps. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), Ken Buck (R-Colo.), Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.), and Blake Moore (R-Utah).
In Moore's defense, he changed his vote at the last minute, a procedural step that would allow the measure to be brought up again. If the match had ended in a draw, the attempt would have ended immediately.

Efforts to impeach Mayorkas are on fire
The vote consists of a resolution combining two articles of impeachment accusing Mayorkas of “refusing to comply with federal immigration laws” and another stating that he violated the “public trust.”
Both are undeniably true.
However, just as Lucy tempted Charlie Brown to take the kick, McClintock, Buck, and Gallagher took the ball from under the feet of the American people.
It should be easy for Republicans to band together on impeaching Mayorkas. It is the lowest-hanging fruit ever in the administration regarding the border crisis that is the primary concern of the American people.

Cowards
Since Joe Biden and Mayorkas took office, the border crisis has spiraled out of control. The latest numbers show that December saw the highest number of border crossings in a single month in our nation's history.
Mayorkas has dishonestly claimed the border is secure, even as he was sworn in to Congress, while deliberately refusing to enforce the law.
Imagine what would happen if you owned a bank and hired a security guard, and then the security guard willingly opened the door for every criminal walking down the street. Are you going to fire that guard? Will they be held accountable?
Not if Republicans own this bank.
A poll conducted by the Rasmussen Foundation shows that 52% of American voters approve of efforts to remove Mayorkas, while only 36% disagree.
These three Republicans are literally going against what the American people want.
Former President Donald Trump referred to Pack as a “weak, ineffective Super Renault” who sells his principles on his way out the door so he can “audition” for a role in some “leftist outlet that is ruining the country.”
Buck announced his retirement late last year. To prove Trump's point, Pack spent the days leading up to the vote to impeach Mayorkas running on MSNBC and declaring that this was “not an impeachable offense.”
Given Moore changed his vote, the impeachment effort could be revived next week, which several House Republicans have suggested is their plan of attack.
Republicans say the hope is to bring up the legislation again when House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Los Angeles), who is undergoing cancer treatment, can attend.
Why didn't they wait to get the Scalise vote first instead of embarrassing themselves?
However, we can be sure that Charlie Brown will hit the ground running next week when the GOP takes the football away again. They don't know how to win.
