Heavy snow is expected to return to Colorado's mountains on Wednesday, bringing dangerous road conditions and high avalanche risks.

Winter weather warnings are in effect for most high-altitude areas, including northwest Boulder County, Rocky Mountain National Park and Blue Sky Mountain. Snow totals are expected to range from 6 to 14 inches. Strong wind gusts of up to 70 mph are expected to worsen poor road conditions.

This will be the second major snow storm in the mountains in less than a week. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center warns that there will be a moderate to high avalanche danger in most mountains through Friday. Avalanches are expected to occur easily and naturally. Recreation in the countryside is not recommended.

Chances of snow in the I-25 urban corridor are expected to be low. Even if it snows, the National Weather Service expects snow totals to be less than an inch, with rain possible.
