Donald Trump intends to resume a trade war with China if elected to a second term, saying on Sunday that he would impose tariffs on Chinese goods that could exceed 60%.

The Washington Post recently reported that Trump is considering imposing a flat 60% tariff on all Chinese imports.

On Sunday, Trump was asked about it on Fox News Channel's “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“No, I would say maybe it would be more than that,” Trump told host Maria Bartiromo. “We have to do this.”

Trump imposed 25% tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods in 2018, setting off a round of tit-for-tat tariffs before the United States and China reached a deal in 2020, and the Biden administration has mostly left the tariffs unchanged.

These tariffs raised American consumer costs by about $51 billion annually, according to a 2022 report by the American Action Forum, a right-wing think tank.

GOP presidential contender Nikki Haley criticized one of Trump's tariff plans last month, saying: “What Donald Trump intends to do to you will raise every household's expenses by $2,600 a year,” referring to Trump's proposal to impose a flat 10% tax on all tariffs.
