Ethereum Name Service, a GoDaddy partner that connects domain names to cryptocurrency wallets

The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) and the largest domain registry on the Internet, GoDaddy, have partnered to associate Internet domains with ENS addresses at no cost.

This collaboration helps integrate blockchain technology with traditional Internet infrastructure, which could ignite web3 adoption among major players.

Nick Johnson, founder of ENS, highlighted the simplicity and potential of this integration by saying: “Beyonce owns Beyonce.xyz, and now she can create a wallet by just going to the GoDaddy page and entering your address. Now Beyonce.xyz is her wallet identifier for all intents and purposes.”

The initiative aims to expand its functionality beyond Ethereum (ETH), with plans to enable address setting for multiple blockchains, thus expanding the scope of web3 profiles.

Despite the ongoing legal dispute between ENS and GoDaddy over the sale of ENS's “eth.link” domain, the partnership underscores a desire to collaborate on shared visions for the future of the label and web3.

Johnson expressed his optimism about the relationship, stressing the importance of building on existing systems rather than trying to reinvent them completely.

The eth.link case remains unresolved in court, yet both parties appear committed to collaborative efforts in bridging the gap between traditional and blockchain technologies.
