Through the doors of Let's Play Books on Main Street in Emmaus, a toast was held on Saturday to celebrate the bookstore's 10th anniversary, and the store is planning its next move.
“We're not planning to close. We're trying to figure out the next thing to do,” said Kirsten Hess, owner of Let's Play Books.
The store faces space and location issues, Hess said.
It seeks input from the community on what it needs.
Over the course of 10 years, the store has become a staple in the community.
“We have provided over $115,000 in free author visits to area schools,” Hess said.
“Let's Play Books is more than just a library,” said store associate Michelle Adler. “It's a way to access all the things books can do. It's a doorway into the world.”
Independent bookstores serve as a community hub, Hess said.
She said the store is able to sell niche titles and authors.
“We're able to bring a variety of ideas and creativity through books that people might not necessarily see,” Adler said.
Deborah Mortimer, owner of Leap Forward Publishing, was among those attending the celebration.
She started out as a children's author.
“What better way to do that than to have them hold a paper book in their hands and see the illustrations rather than constantly converting it into something digital.” said Mortimer.
A decision on whether to go ahead with the Let's Play Books plan could be made as early as May.
Transportation is among what is being considered.
