Not all politicians respond peacefully when there are calls for their removal from office.
Tasha Diaz, Majority Leader for Democrats on the Yonkers City Council, made threats last month at a council meeting when one of her colleagues voted to remove her from her position.
Corazon Pineda Isaac, a councilwoman, voted against Diaz to retain her status as majority leader. But the vote was unsuccessful and Diaz retained her role.
Tasha Diaz became angry about the vote and made threats. Many people in the council chambers heard these muttered comments. She allegedly said she wanted to “cut this bitch's throat.”
The New York Post reported:
The Yonkers City Council's Democratic majority leader allegedly lashed out about wanting to “cut this bitch's throat” after a lawmaker unsuccessfully voted to remove her from office earlier this month, according to a complaint.
Councilwoman Tasha Diaz made the alleged remark about Councilwoman Corazon Pineda-Isaac after a council reorganization meeting on Jan. 2, multiple sources told the Journal News.
Several people in the council chamber claim they heard Diaz mutter the threatening comment shortly after Pineda Isaac voted unsuccessfully against Democratic Majority Leader retaining her role for the next two years.
“I need to get out of here before I slit this bitch’s throat,” one source recalls Diaz saying while she was still in the council chamber. The New York Post reported.
This does not appear to be a one-time statement. After Diaz went to the Speaker's office, another source claimed she wanted to “slit” her neck (Pineda-Isaac).
At this time, Diaz remains in the majority leader role.
Pineda Isaac filed a complaint with City Hall against her colleague for the alleged threats. She also claimed there were previous comments Diaz made about her
“Pineda-Isaac alleged in the complaint that she once heard Diaz call her a ‘retarded b—h’ and that she would ‘knock the bait out of my mouth,'” the New York Post reported.
This was not a partisan political rivalry because they are both Democrats.
