Milan coach Stefano Pioli said the club will make a decision on his future when the time is right, choosing instead to focus on the task at hand.
Speaking to DAZN (via MilanNews) ahead of the match against Frosinone on Saturday afternoon, the Italian coach was asked about persistent rumors linking Milan with other coaches at the end of the current season.
Naturally, Pioli said he lives in the moment and prepares for each match as it comes, rather than thinking too much about the bigger picture.
Pioli explained: “I focus on preparing for the matches. Every coach must try to motivate as much as possible and prepare for the match at the tactical level in the best possible way, to prepare the players for what the challenge will be like.”
He also explained that there is a great relationship between him and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who now works as a special advisor and is believed to have some influence on Pioli's future as Milan coach.
He added: “There is great respect between me, Zlatan and the club, and when the right time comes, the club will decide, and we will decide.” “Now we're just focusing on what we have to do for the rest of the season, it's still a long season,” he said.
Milan have seen an improvement in their form in recent weeks which has helped ease some of the pressure on Pioli, but the distance between the Rossoneri and league leaders Inter means the title race already looks beyond them.
Many see this as a failure given the summer investment, so thoughts have already turned to next season and whether Pioli has done everything he can with the team.
