Hovvdy have announced their new self-titled album, which will be released on April 26 via Arts and Crafts. Today, the Texas duo previewed the follow-up to 2021 true love With a new song “Forever” along with a video directed by Michael Rhys starring comedians Veronica Slowikowska and Kyle Chase. Check it out below.
“It's a love song in every sense of the word, but it's steeped in uncertainty,” Charlie Martin explained in a statement. “Growing up with failing marriages all around you, committing to someone seems almost crazy; but there's magic in making that leap.” Driven by acoustic guitars, electric piano and turntable scratching, Martin asks in the song's emotional crescendo, “Will I always love you?” Yes! “I will fall forever.”
Discussing the new album, Martin said: “It's full circle, because a lot of my songs, in adulthood, deal with looking back and seeing your parents as just individuals struggling in life – and trying to have more compassion and understanding. And now Will [Taylor] Diving in from the other side as a new parent, grappling with it all.
“On this album, we really tried to step back and look at: How can we take our songwriting in a new way?” Will Taylor added. “It challenged the songs we brought, and it challenged me to be more vulnerable.”
The band participated in the production Hovdi With Andrew Sarlo and Bennett Littlejohn. They include recent singles “Jean”, “Bubba” and “Portrait”.
