Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority held a secret meeting in Riyadh about a week ago that focused on plans to govern Gaza after the end of the war, according to several sources. The sources said that they also discussed ways in which the “renewed Palestinian Authority” could participate in managing the sector.
The meeting indicates that the Palestinian Authority and the Arab countries are making progress in planning moves for the “day after” the war in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the same discussions are taking place in Israel, although no solutions have been found yet.
The meeting was organized in Riyadh by Saudi National Security Advisor Musaad Al-Aiban, and was attended by Palestinian General Intelligence Director Majid Faraj, Egyptian Intelligence Director Abbas Kamel, and Jordanian Intelligence Director Ahmed Hosni.
An informed source said that Israel was informed of the meeting and its contents by some of the participants.
The Saudis, Egyptians and Jordanians made clear to the Palestinian intelligence chief that the PA must implement reforms that would allow for renewal in the leadership ranks as well, according to two sources familiar with what happened at the meeting. This includes transferring certain powers from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to a new prime minister who will be appointed.
Moving towards normalization with Israel
The Saudis stressed that they remain interested in moving toward normalization with Israel in exchange for practical, irreversible steps by Israel and the international community on the path to a Palestinian state — even if they do not lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state. state immediately.
