The future of the Argentine MotoGP round at Termas de Rio Hondo does not look good.
Recent reports suggest that cost-cutting by the new government has cast doubt on the 2024 event, while MotoGP's official website lists ticket sales for the April 5-7 Grand Prix as 'temporarily closed'.
The sources said Crash.net It's a wait and see situation but there should be 'news soon'. With no reassuring statements from the ring to quell the rumours, the signs are not looking good.
After a 15-year absence, Argentina returned to the MotoGP Grand Prix calendar at the newly established Termas de Río Hondo circuit in 2014.
This event has been held every year since then, with the exception of the 2020 and 2021 Covid seasons.
186,038 fans attended last year's round, despite the rain, to witness Marco Bezicki take his first MotoGP World Championship win. Termas was the fourth biggest event of the season in terms of viewership behind only Le Mans, Sachsenring and Valencia.
If Argentina declines, Balaton Park in Hungary will be the official reserve circuit for the standard 22-round season. However, the track, scheduled to host its first WorldSBK event in late August, has not yet been approved.
The Kazakhstan debut, scheduled for June 14-16, is also still subject to contracting and approval for the new Sokol International Raceway.
