It's been nearly three years since country music star Morgan Wallen was targeted by the cultural mob for dropping the N-word on camera while returning home from a drunken night out with friends. Now he is speaking out to expose what he describes as “the dark side of the music industry.”
Wallen's votes are down
In a new interview, Wallen spoke out against the release of previously unheard tracks that he wrote and recorded in the early days of his music career.
“In 2014, I went to Florida to try my hand at creating original music and songwriting for the first time,” Wallen, 30, said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “This led to a record deal with a local investor and an artist management deal, which I deeply regret. Unfortunately, I signed both deals without any legal representation.
“We made 13 songs. Some of them were okay, most of them were terrible because I was learning how to write in general and figuring it all out. “I wasn't the only collaborator, a lot of these songs weren't my idea or my standards. We deemed five of them worthy enough to create a 'Stand Alone EP' which includes the fan favorite, 'Spin You About'.

And the yen doubles
“Stand Alone (10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)” was released last Thursday, much to Wallen's dismay.
“For months, I have been exploring every possible avenue to acquire the rights to this older music and keep the quality of my catalog consistent with the songs I choose to release and believe in,” he said.
He continued: “It's disgusting, greedy and an example of how the dark side of the music industry can suck the soul out of artists.” “I want you to know that this is not my new music and I don't want to see this happen to anyone else. I get frustrated when I listen to these songs and I worry that fans might mistakenly think this is a new release of mine.
Wallen concluded by revealing that he will record his next album next month.
“I feel creatively inspired and very excited to make more music that I'm proud of,” he said. “Trust me, when the new music is ready, you'll hear it directly from me.”

Wallen's N-word scandal
Wallen found himself in hot water in February of 2021 when he was caught on camera dropping the N-word upon arriving home after a drunken night out with friends. Last month, Wallen spoke candidly about the backlash he received for using the racial slur.
“There's no excuse. I've never made an excuse. I'll never make an excuse,” Wallen told Billboard. “I've talked to a lot of people, and I've heard stories [about] Things I would never have thought about because I wasn't the person going through it.
“And I think, for me, in my heart I was never the guy that people were portraying me to be, so there was a little bit of like, ‘Damn, I’m really angry about this a little bit because I know I shouldn’t have said that,’” he added. But I'm not really that guy.”
“I'm putting myself out there, you know? Like, 'I really messed up, man.'” “If I was that guy, I wouldn't care,” Wallen continued. “I wasn't going to apologize. I wouldn't do any of that if I was really the guy people say I am. This person is definitely not the same person I am now.”
Despite being targeted by the cultural mob, Wallen remains one of the most popular stars in country music today. What do you think of his latest statements? Let us know in the comments section.
