A new poll suggests that pop icon Taylor Swift may have an influence on the 2024 presidential election.

However, the numbers reveal a more nuanced reality, with only 18% of voters indicating that they would be affected by her endorsement.

The poll, conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies for Newsweek, highlighted that while a segment of voters may lean toward a Swift-endorsed candidate, there is another 17% who are unlikely to cast a ballot under the same circumstances.

However, a majority of voters, 55%, reported that their voting decision would not be influenced by Swift's political preferences.

The poll suggests that Swift's endorsement could particularly resonate with a younger age group. Nearly 30% of Americans under 35 said they would be swayed by Swift's political opinion, while only 4% of those 65 and older felt the same way.

The Redfield and Wilton poll, which collected data from a sample of 1,500 eligible voters on January 18. This poll comes at a time when Swift's stardom is on the rise. Her Eras tour recently broke the billion-dollar mark, she was celebrated as Time magazine's “Person of the Year” for 2023, and her relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce, whose team is going to the Superbowl.

With 8 million potential new voters, according to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, the impact of youth votes cannot be overstated. 41 million members of Generation Z will be eligible voters in November.

The topic sparked mixed reactions on social media.

“Article says 20% of Americans will vote for whoever Taylor Swift says they will vote for — you're delusional if you believe that,” Twitter user Catward commented.

“It looks like Taylor Swift is actually turning these young people on to Biden — oh wait,” Catward added.

Likewise, Twitter user Gain of Fauci noted, “The fact that 1/5 of all voters can have their entire political opinion shaped by a pop singer is a perfect example of how backwards this country and the world are…”

“But keep in mind that 99.9% of Taylor's music is complaining about her poor choice of men,” TGP Contributor Tim Kramer said. Do with this information what you want.
