Former late night host Jay Leno broke his own rule of not speaking publicly about his political views last week when he revealed he was “not a fan” of former President Donald Trump. However, he has also spoken out against Democrats for trying to keep Trump off the ballot.
Leno 'not a fan' of Trump
During an appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncentriced,” host Piers Morgan asked Leno what he thought of Trump.
“I'm not a fan,” Leno responded, and continued to attack Democrats' attempts to keep Trump off the ballot, saying, “I'm against it.”
Morgan chimed in to say the effort was “anti-democratic,” and Leno agreed.
“If the people want this person as president, that's fine,” Leno continued. “I mean I'm not a fan, and it has nothing to do with politics. I don't think ethically, I think we can do a little better. You know all these accusations no matter what.”

Leno has previously remained politically neutral
In this same interview, Leno spoke candidly about his previous policy of remaining politically neutral in public.
“I've just stopped doing politics in my work completely. You know, when I did The Tonight Show, the idea was to mock both sides equally. “They'd both be angry. And I'll say: Oh, that's good. You know, they both think you're supporting the other guy.
“Now, you have to take sides, and people are angry if you don't,” he added, saying that people now “want to know the bottom line before — is this pro or con — you know?” So I stopped doing it.
“I just want people to come and laugh and have a good time. That's the idea of doing comedy,” he said, noting that injecting his political opinion is “useless.”

Leno discusses the future
At another point in the interview, Morgan asked Leno: “Do you worry about what might happen in this country, in terms of division, if Trump is re-elected?”
“Well, you got the government you deserve,” Leno replied. “I mean, that's pretty much the way the world works, or at least the way America works, if that's what people choose. Well, that's what's going to happen, right? So I don't know, I'd rather — I mean, that's the way it is “He seems very calm now and the economy seems to be doing very well. I like the things Biden has been doing. I think he's done a really good job on the economy.”
“But now you have people saying, if someone says the economy is really bad, ‘It really is?’ Well,” he continued. “You know. I mean, gasoline prices have nothing to do with the president. You know, all that kind of stuff. So I don't know. I don't know. I'm trying not to. I'm not an expert in this area.”
“This is the only thing I love about America,” Leno concluded. “Now, we're the only place in the world. If you go to Europe. We wanted to talk about economics. So I went to the University of Economics in Pomona. We go to the truck stop in Lima, Ohio. You know, here in America, you go to the truck stop. You talk “With the guy and you hear what he's got. Oh, I'd rather have an expert, you know.”

While we're glad that Leno isn't giving Democrats a free hand, we find it unfortunate that he chose to break his rule of abstaining from talking about politics by attacking Trump. Now, Leno has shown himself to be just another isolated member of the liberal elite who mistakenly believes that speaking out against Trump will somehow sway those who support the former president.
