Here when the summer-like weather ends in Dallas-Fort Worth and the rain comes down, the storms hit us again

North Texas will see above normal temperatures this week before rain returns to the forecast over the weekend.

Temperatures will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s most days of the week with sunny skies abundant, said Jason Dunn, chief meteorologist at the National Weather Service's Fort Worth office.

“It's going to be a nice couple of days for sure,” Dan said.

Temperatures will be 10-15 degrees above normal this week, mostly in the 60s and upper 70s, with sunny skies.

This week will be a nice break from the cold days North Texas has seen over the past two weeks. A blast of cold Arctic air blew south bringing temperatures into the teens. Many parts of the region even received snow, the result of a phenomenon called the “lake snow effect.”

Rain chances will spoil the warm weather a bit heading into the weekend.

Dunn said the best chance for rain will come overnight Friday into Saturday with showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will drop on Saturday and Sunday from the upper 50s to the low 60s.

Some may wonder why North Texas experiences summer-like temperatures in the traditional winter months of January and February, but Dunn said it's typical for the Metroplex to have periods of heating and cooling.

“Just a pattern that favors us warming up a little bit,” Dan said. “Nothing too crazy.”

While North Texas is expected to see highs in the 70s this week, it will have to get much warmer to break any temperature records.

According to NWS data, the warmest days ever recorded in North Texas between January 29-31 and February 1-2 are:

    • January 29 – 84 degrees 1911

    • January 30 – 86 degrees, 1911

    • January 31 – 93 degrees 1911

    • February 1 – 91 degrees 1911

    • February 2 – 83 degrees in 1995
