Santa Ana winds will weaken across San Diego County by Tuesday, with cooler and wetter weather forecast for the latter half of the week and likely to continue into the first full week of February, forecasters said Sunday.

The county is encouraging the use of sandbags due to the possibility of another storm heading into the San Diego area. Heavy rain is expected Wednesday night into Friday, with the possibility of heavy rain on Thursday.

The surf forecast for San Diego on Monday includes a dangerous rip current, with waves 3 to 5 feet high, with swells west of 270 degrees. Waves could reach eight to 10 feet on west-facing beaches in San Diego County, according to the National Weather Service.

Downtown San Diego is expected to be mostly sunny Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the low 70s.

The weather is expected to be partly cloudy on Monday in desert areas, with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the 70s throughout the week. Moderate winds and a mix of clear and partly cloudy conditions are expected in the mountains, with temperatures rising into the low to mid-60s, the National Weather Service said.

Partly cloudy weather is expected along the coast next week, with daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. Inland valley areas are expected to be clear and partly cloudy through Friday, with highs reaching the 70s.
