Microsoft's Teams app suffered an outage on Friday, prompting users to express their frustration on social media with the workplace communications platform.

“User reports indicate issues with Microsoft Teams,” Down Detector, which monitors online service outages, posted on Friday. Down Detector showed that as of 1:43 PM ET, users had submitted 14,599 reports of issues with Microsoft Teams.

“We have identified a network issue affecting part of the Teams service and are conducting a failover to address the impact,” the official Microsoft 365 updates account on X Posted Friday morning.

In the event of a failover, the backup system is used to take over the operation.

From the archives (April 2020): Microsoft Teams continues to grow at an amazing pace

“We have completed the failover in the EMEA region and service telemetry is showing some improvement,” a post from the account said shortly afterward. “Failures in the North and South America regions are continuing and we continue to monitor.”

In a post on X at 3:40 PM ET, Microsoft said the failover process “did not provide immediate relief” for all users in North and South America. “However, we are seeing improvements as we continue to optimize traffic patterns and implement configuration changes aimed at reducing customer impact as quickly as possible,” the company added.

“Our network and back-end service optimization efforts are ongoing, and we are monitoring positive internal telemetry signals to ensure that our mitigations are effectively minimizing the impact on customers,” Microsoft said. Published on X 5:12 PM ET.

When asked for comment on the extent of the outage and the number of users affected, Microsoft MarketWatch referred it to the official Microsoft 365 updates on Twitter.

Teams users on social media shared their experiences with the outage. “Microsoft Teams users are experiencing issues with delayed delivery of chat messages, messages not being delivered, etc.,” the Cedarville University IT department posted on X. “This is a known issue and Microsoft is in the process of resolving the issue.”

“@MicrosoftTeams is not working at all!” “If you use this 'platform' to communicate within your company or with your clients, beware!'” user @Frau_Rabe wrote on X. Because it is not reliable! It does not send messages on time and does not upload photos.
