First Weather Alert: Updated Friday evening – 1/26/24

    03:39

Our first alert weather team issued a Yellow alert Sunday morning due to a coastal depression that will bring a mix of rain, snow and stormy winds to the coast, which will affect travel.

First Alert Yellow Alert Sunday morning, wide range of weather conditions, snow/inland mix, rain and coastal impacts; 30-45 mph wind gusts. 2-6

    CBS2

    what are you expecting

Rainfall amounts are around 1 inch for many.

Snow falls well inland – above 750-1000 feet. Heavy, wet snow is expected in places such as Kiamisha, Monticello and Livingston Manor. They can stack 2-6 inches high. A place like Middletown could see a slushy mix, but the rain will fall mainly south of I-84.

Wind speeds could reach 30-45 mph on the New Jersey coast and on Long Island. This may cause water to accumulate and cause some minor beach erosion. Our coasts are at risk.

    timing

Saturday 10pm – Sunday 3am: Light to moderate rain will fall, with a little snow falling in colder areas.

Sunday 3 AM – Noon: The brunt of the system. Another spell of rain and snow to the north and gusty coastal winds are blowing.

Sunday noon – 3 pm: more quiet. The latest models demonstrate calmness in any procedure.

Sunday 3 pm – Monday 2 am: Light snow and residual rain return. Cold air is moving south and a little snow is likely near the city very early Monday morning.

    Monday is cold and windy.
