The Halloween week Arctic blast sweeps over 240 million from coast to coast
A blast of arctic air during the first half of the work week promises to send temperatures to their lowest levels since spring in much of the United States, with parts of every state except Florida potentially reaching the freezing mark. For many, exposure to cold air will be quick and sudden, with the temperature dropping 10 to 20 degrees or more in just hours, if not minutes. The invasion of cold air has already begun and will reach its maximum on Halloween and Wednesday, when more than 240 million Americans will feel the cold.
Chicago, Minneapolis and Milwaukee could see their first snowfall of the season
Along with the arctic air, Chicago, Minneapolis and Milwaukee could also see their first measurable snow of the season this week, thanks to a clipper system called the Manitoba Mueller. The Manitoba Mueller may look like something out of a Halloween movie, but it's actually a clipper system that forms in Manitoba, Canada – similar to the “Alberta Clipper” but originating in a different Canadian province. The FOX Forecast Center expects the snow to arrive in Minneapolis on Monday night, then slide east into Chicago and Milwaukee on Tuesday. While less than an inch is expected to fall in those cities, it will be the first snowfall of the season and a reminder that winter is less than two months away.
HURRICANE HQ: 96L investment near Bahamas has short window for development as Caribbean also monitors development
The low pressure area east-northeast of the Bahamas in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean, which the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has named Invest 96L, has only a short window to develop in the next day or so as the system slowly moves west-northwest. Then it heads towards the north and northeast. If the system can organize itself and have sustained winds of at least 39 mph, it will be named Tropical Storm Vince.
In the eastern Caribbean Sea, an area of disturbed weather has formed, and the National Hurricane Center says environmental conditions appear favorable for gradual development as it moves westward into the central and southwestern Caribbean Sea. It currently has a moderate chance of developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm within the next seven days.
