National Weather Service forecast for Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

    Updated at 1:50 p.m

LANSING — Icy roads led to a series of minor accidents across the greater Lansing area Tuesday, especially during the morning hours.

As of early afternoon, Lansing police had responded to eight slide-ins or minor accidents, department spokeswoman Jordan Gulkis said. She added that none of these incidents resulted in serious injuries.

A school bus rolled off the road around 8:30 a.m. on Tecumseh River Road at North Waverly Road, police said. There were no injuries or property damage.

Throughout the area, police responded to a number of minor slides or collisions in the morning, but no injuries were reported.

A few outages were quickly restored

LANSING — Utility outage maps showed no major power outages as the greater Lansing area suffered another round of difficult winter weather.

Consumers Energy restored power to more than 300 customers affected by a power outage Tuesday morning in the DeWitt area. The outage map showed just one customer without power in the Lansing area.

DTE Energy reported no outages in eastern Ingham County, part of its coverage area. The Lansing Water and Light Board reported two outages.

The National Weather Service says it expects a slick and slippery day

DeWITT — More than 300 Consumer Energy customers were without power this morning in the DeWitt area, according to the company's outage map.

The cause of the outage, which was first reported around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday with more than 1,200 people affected, was not listed on the company's website. This was the only major outage reported by the four major power companies in the region.

Most area school districts are closed today in anticipation of ice and snow throughout the greater Lansing area.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids said, “A variety of weather types are expected today, ranging from mostly snow north of Interstate 96 to a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow along/near I-96, to rain on… Mostly along and south of I-94 after 10 a.m.

Temperatures are expected to be freezing this morning and rise into the mid-30s during the day, the weather service said online.

A WINTER WEATHER WARNING is in effect until 4pm today for the Lansing area and 10pm north.

The Lansing area could see 2 inches of snow with ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch, the weather service said.

Amtrak service in the Midwest was affected by the weather. Chicago-Detroit-Pontiac passengers on Trains 351 and 352 will be transported by charter buses instead of the train on Tuesday, the train service announced on its website.

There was no specific reference to trains operating through the East Lansing station.

The Capital Region International Airport was announcing on-time arrivals and departures as of 7:25 a.m
