In addition to the waves of people crossing America's southern border every day, another crisis is unfolding. Thousands of dogs are being abandoned by illegal border crossers who bring their pets only to learn that the dogs cannot enter.
These dogs that are left behind are then reproduced, making the problem worse.
Last December, we told you about a reporter who rescued an abandoned puppy.
Clearly we need more people to save these poor dogs.
TMZ reported:
Dogs abandoned by migrants… Reporters and National Guard take care of puppies
There's something crazy happening along the southern border, where migrants trying to enter the United States with their dogs are having to leave them behind, and it's creating a whole other crisis.
FNC reporter Matt Finn is on the ground in Eagle Pass, Texas and joined us Thursday on “TMZ Live” to reveal what he's seeing firsthand… and how he and other TV crews are getting involved, and taking in some dogs themselves.
Matt says a large number of migrants are trying to cross the border with their dogs, only to be told they can't bring the puppies with them to federal processing centers…resulting in stray dogs wandering the border.
The conditions leave the dogs in need of food, water and shelter… Matt says National Guard troops are taking care of some of the dogs… and he and his producer have helped, too.
If you're a dog lover, this will drive you crazy.
Lots of border puppies. Does anyone want this guy in Eagle Pass? It is in rough condition but very nice. pic.twitter.com/B5QSw7aO2k

Border Update Today we spotted a dog that we took to the vet last year (left) for flea and tick treatment. He looks healthy, not scratched or basking on the banks of the river. pic.twitter.com/wmrefRRcOe

Here's a great update from the journalist who rescued the pup on the border in December.
One month since Bella was rescued from the border. She is doing great and this is her happy dance when it is time to feed her. pic.twitter.com/5EkGRtYvSY

What kind of person would leave an innocent dog behind?
