A helicopter carrying at least seven people crashed near Terrace, British Columbia, David Jephson, executive director of Terrace Search and Rescue, a local volunteer rescue group, said Monday.
No deaths have been confirmed. But some of those on the heli-skiing flight were taken to hospital with serious injuries, Jephson said. Other helicopters in the area were gathering near the crash site to assist in search and rescue efforts as night approached.
He added that it was not clear what caused the accident, but Terrace Search and Rescue first received reports about the accident before 4 p.m. local time.
Terrace is a city of 12,000 located 70 miles from the Alaska border. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported that Mills Memorial Hospital, a local medical centre, is preparing to receive accident patients. A person at the hospital declined to comment on the incident or the condition of the patients.
