A college graduate who went to D.C. to volunteer to help others was shot and killed in an attempted robbery last week.

Ryan Relpoto, 23, has been in Democratic-run Washington, D.C., for about six months to volunteer with the Capuchin Franciscan Volunteer Corps.

Everything changed in the blink of an eye as he was returning home with two friends last Thursday night. A car with a few unknown suspects pulled up and demanded money from Realbuto and his friends. One of the suspects got out of the car and shot Realbuto when they wouldn't give them any money.

Realbuto was taken to hospital but unfortunately passed away.

    The New York Post reported:

A 23-year-old from New York state who moved to Washington, D.C., to volunteer at an organization that helps high school students, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in the nation's capital last week, police and his loved ones said.

Recent college graduate Ryan Relpoto was shot and killed Thursday around 10 p.m. when an armed suspect demanded money as he and two friends were returning home from a youth gathering at church, according to family.

“While they were walking, a car stopped, the men demanded money, one person got out of the car, and when no one produced any money, the person shot Ryan,” his aunt wrote on the verified GoFundMe page.

Ryan Relpoto's mother shared her experience with losing her son.

“This is life changing. Our lives will never be the same. My brother Ryan's life will never be the same. My life will never be the same,” Realbuto's mother said.

“This is breaking the family. It's breaking, it's breaking the community. It was all about his family. He looked up to his two older brothers, they really took care of him,” Realbuto's mother continued.

At this time, no suspects have been arrested.
