46-year-old Jennifer Ann Dazey was found dead on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in her bedroom. Police identified the suspect as Jennifer's son, Tyler James Deasy, allegedly involved in the murder. According to court records, Jennifer's boyfriend was the first to discover her body and called police.
Police revealed that the victim suffered fractures to his head, neck and face. When asked about the alleged murder, the suspect invoked his Miranda rights. Along with the victim, authorities also discovered the family dog lying dead on the couch in the living room of the home.
Jennifer Ann Deasy's body was found in her bedroom, and authorities charged her son in connection with the murder
On January 18, authorities responded to a home in the 1600 block of Avoca Street. Upon their arrival, police officers discovered a deceased female and a dead dog. The victim's son, Tyler, was considered a suspect and charged with first-degree murder. He made his first appearance in court on Friday, January 19, when his bail was set at $2 million. It was also confirmed that the suspect has not yet filed a plea.
Law&Crime reported that Tyler accused his mother of practicing witchcraft to harm him. But he did not answer when authorities asked him about Jennifer Ann Deasy's injuries. The new station confirmed that the suspect is being booked into the Dubuque County Jail. As previously reported, the victim was found dead by a friend on Thursday morning at approximately 8:50 a.m. local time.
According to police, when they found the suspect, he was naked and in his bedroom. Law enforcement officials also spoke about the suspect and revealed that he did not appear to be responsive. The authorities are currently investigating the case to reveal all the basic details.
The suspect was charged with first-degree murder
A tactical tomahawk was recovered from the bathroom of the residence, Law&Crime reported. The authorities also found the sheath that was kept on the dining table. However, it has not been confirmed whether it was the murder weapon used to kill Jennifer Ann Daisy. According to Dubuque Police Department Lt. Brendan Welch, the weapon has been sent for forensic testing. Other pieces of evidence were also sent for testing.
Welch confirmed that the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy on the victim. Until then, the cause of death cannot be officially determined. According to the Telegraph Herald, Welsh added:
“Investigators are still processing evidence found at the scene and are sending items for further testing.”
Wells further told the news station,
“Every time we have a death of an unknown nature, we treat it as a suspicious death.”
Cops confirmed the suspect was first taken to MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center to be evaluated. He was then taken into police custody. Tyler's next court appearance is scheduled for January 29, 2024. If convicted, Jennifer Ann Deasy could receive a life sentence.
