MICHIGAN CITY, IN (WLS) — Two winter weather advisories are expected Monday regarding possible slick roads, as the Chicago area tries to warm up after a cold snap.
The first warning is in effect for the entire region until noon Monday.
The second will be from 9pm on Monday until 9am on Tuesday.
Light snow is expected Monday morning, with some sleet, said ABC7 Chicago meteorologist Tracy Butler. Untreated surfaces may become smooth.
The afternoon hours appear relatively quiet, Butler said.
Late Monday evening and overnight into Tuesday is when the effects are expected to be most worrisome.
Freezing rain will likely spread throughout the area, which could make roads, sidewalks and driveways more slippery.
Butler said power outages may be possible south of Interstate 80, and issued an AccuWeather alert.
The weather problems for Monday and Tuesday come after parts of Northwest Indiana saw more than 3 feet of snow Over the past few days.
Chicago has activated its warming centers.
Centers open when temperatures are 32 degrees. It is available from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
