A powerful storm is set to hit the east with rain, wind and snow
The eastern half of the United States could be in for an interesting weekend when it comes to weather, as confidence grows that a powerful storm system could bring a triple threat of severe weather, widespread snow and rain with damaging winds. Some details still need to be ironed out, so it is important to note that there may be changes to the forecast in the coming days.
However, the FOX Forecast Center believes severe thunderstorms, including possible tornadoes, could impact parts of the South this weekend. Additionally, the Midwest could face the risk of measurable snow, while the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast could see widespread rain and winds of 50 to 70 mph. As cold air meets the storm over parts of the inland Northeast, the rain will likely turn to a flurry of snow late Sunday into Monday.
Deadly floodwaters are receding in the Pacific Northwest
Washington was hit by major flooding this week after days of heavy rain caused by a deadly weather storm known as the Pineapple Express that struck the Pacific Northwest and sent rivers bursting their banks.
Neighborhoods, roads and highways stretching from the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean were covered in water, and flooding is blamed for at least two deaths in Oregon.
Precipitation began to fall across Western Washington on Wednesday as the atmospheric river shifted south of the region. But the National Weather Service warned that the risk of river flooding would continue through Thursday.
