CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (KCRG) –It's another very cold morning across eastern Iowa with wind chills in the single digits, teens, 20s below zero.
Sunday Monday
A wind chill warning is in effect for eastern Iowa until 11 a.m. Sunday. However, the weather this afternoon will be warmer with highs in the teens and 20s with partly cloudy skies. Wind chills this afternoon will rise to the single digits above zero. Late tonight, a snow and wintry mix will begin to move into the area from the south with lows in the teens. Therefore, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for our southernmost counties beginning late Sunday night and continuing through Monday morning. The wintry mix could extend into our central area and Interstate 30 by Monday morning. Therefore, you need to be more careful when you head to work on Monday morning. The wintry mix should move out of the area by late Monday morning, ushering in a mostly cloudy Monday afternoon with highs in the low to mid 30s.
Monday night and beyond
The wintry mix of freezing rain and snow will begin again Monday night and will cover the entire area by Tuesday morning. It will be possible to create ice on roads and surfaces using this system. Although wintry precipitation will cause travel issues this week, we will at least enjoy some warmer temperatures with highs in the low to mid 30s on Monday and into next weekend.
