MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – With winter weather bringing cold temperatures and freezing rain, weather-related deaths are on the rise in Shelby County and the entire state of Tennessee.
The Tennessee Department of Health confirmed 19 weather-related deaths.
There were seven in Shelby County, one in Hickman County, one in Madison County, two in Washington County, one in Carroll County, one in Knox County, one in Van Buren County, one in Lauderdale County, one in Henry County, and two in Marshall County, and one in Rowan County.
To ensure the safety of all residents in the Shelby County area, the Tennessee Highway Patrol will continue to provide assistance to motorists, monitor traffic and support other law enforcement responsibilities.
