Thousands of schools in the United States are at risk of closing due to sharp declines in school enrollment in recent years.
The pandemic has been one of the worst things to happen to public education in years, and teachers unions and Democrats have made it worse by repeatedly postponing the reopening of schools. Many parents were also horrified to discover the wake-up content being taught.
Across the country, people have found alternatives in homeschooling, private schools, and charter schools.

A new report shows that thousands of school districts are at risk of closing due to a “dramatic” loss in enrollment.
The warning stems from an analysis of national registration data by the Brookings Institution and some reporting from The 74.
Their analysis came after Brookings Institution researchers found a decline in enrollment in elementary and middle schools, with a loss of one-fifth of their enrollment rates.
“Enrollment rates are declining everywhere,” said Sophocles Gullas, a fellow at the Brookings Institution. The report also noted that Jackson Public Schools voted to close 11 schools and consolidate two of them. Some of these schools have seen a loss of 30% or more of their students since 2018.
The report notes that many school districts saw declines similar to those experienced by Jackson Public Schools, and that this number more than doubled between 2019 and 2021.
The report further explained that the decline is expected to continue throughout the decade and that Oregon, New Mexico and West Virginia are among the states expected to see enrollment decline “at least another 10 percent.”
