Winter storm: Timing, amounts and impacts of Friday's snow in south-central Pennsylvania
Now the weather. News 8th Storm Team Forecast with Meteorologist TJ Springer. Our winning week continues across the valley as we are already tracking another storm system that will bring us a blanket of snow today. It looks and feels like winter too. Despite the temperatures, we try to stay a little warm. Some warm air is trying to move in before our next system. But with the draw, we won't be doing a lot of warm-ups. We can see gray conditions in D.C. moving toward the south and west, with the storm team's live radar network picking up a bit of snow. But this doesn't reach the ground, it gets what we call virga or snow evaporates before it reaches the surface. So, as the weather continues to be more humid, we may see some crusting, but for now, not much. Our bigger story is the energy, so to speak, that lies to our west, which will bring us a blanket of snow tomorrow. Eventually it will interact with some moisture from the south and as it moves towards the coast, a new low will begin to take control. So it will be a similar setup to what we had this previous week. Storm. We are still producing this light, fluffy snow today. We expect temperatures to compete with clouds and reach the mid-30s for us, cooler than usual for this time of year. The impact period begins tonight with snow falling later with lows in the mid to upper 20s, and then tomorrow we will see consistent snowfall throughout the day. The low begins later in the evening and as the low develops off the coast, the weather will shift to late winds with highs only in the mid 20s to near 30. We are in the 20s now in Selinsgrove, 30 on the point at Gettysburg, and in York we have 26 in Red City Rose. Now, on Friday, it is a moderate impact event, just like this previous regime. Snow will likely arrive around 3:00 AM. From west to east, then ends at the time of the last dinner. There will be steady snowfall throughout the day, with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. After that, expect snow-covered roads. I think the evening flight might be a little risky, or because it's been snowing all day, but the morning flight might be a little difficult. We'll see that here. On the forecast as snow continues to spread in the area. We're fine through dinnertime tonight, but during the early hours of Friday, we're starting to see snow falling from west to east. It's 430 a.m., just in time for today's 8 o'clock news. You can see those off-white shades indicating milder snowfall as we head right through lunchtime, finally starting to fall a little as we head through mid-afternoon. And then I think it will start to get out of here by dinner time tomorrow, if not for a little while. Beyond that, there's a wide range of 2 to 4 inches on the table throughout the Susquehanna Valley, but we're seeing some higher-level dynamics. Farther south and east you live, near metro Philadelphia. That may impact the total a little bit, but for now, we expect it to be widely spread from 2 to 4. But there could be some isolated amounts, maybe a little higher than that to our south and east. Now our Eight News Storm Team's ten-day forecast shows much colder temperatures on Saturday. That's why we have influence there as well. Wind chills near zero to start the day, and we're back near 40 degrees on Monday with more sunshine, but look at the moderate trend in our temperatures. Finally, the warmth returns to the 40s and eventually 50s with the possibility of rain
