Most of the undulating plains and much of the southern plains are still classified as “drought-free” (D0). This includes the Lubbock metro area. Other than that, the USDM update showed some minor improvements compared to the southernmost plans in the far northwest. However, droughts from moderate phase (D1) to severe phase (D2) continue to be reported across the south-northwestern Plains. Parts of the far north and southwestern Plains, along with the southern and rolling plains, remain classified as “abnormally dry” (D0).
