Chelsea and Arsenal target Victor Osimhen has expressed his long-standing desire to play in the Premier League throughout his career.
Although his stay in Napoli was extended until 2026, the player expressed his future desire to play in the English Premier League. Several prominent European clubs have been widely linked with a move for the Nigeria international in recent months.
Chelsea, who are eyeing Osimhen, are aiming to potentially help him with their goalscoring challenges for 2024. However, the Nigeria international is known to be an Arsenal fan too.
The club's current goalscoring woes have sparked a lot of speculation about Arsenal acquiring a specialist striker during the January transfer window. The team fell to fourth place in the league after losing three consecutive matches, which confirms its recent struggle in finishing matches effectively.
The Nigerian confirms his relationship with De Laurentiis
Osimhen confirmed his desire to lead Napoli to win the Italian League title again. However, rumors about his future with the club continue.
“I am happy with the president [of Napoli]. I have a good relationship with him, I can't lie, he's been with me since I signed for the club in 2020, and I have a good relationship with his family as well. It is always important for me to make sure that nothing goes wrong, no matter what happened, in the relationship with him and his family.
“So, for me, Aurelio De Laurentiis has been the kind of boss who has been supportive of me off the pitch and, of course, making sure I do my best and try to win the league for them.
“For me, it's always important to have this kind of relationship, to be happy with the club owner,” the former Lille player told Sky Italia.
Osimhen leaves the door open to the Premier League
Thanking Napoli and the president for their support, Osimhen hinted at a future move to the Premier League in his plans. The 25-year-old has sparked discussions by openly expressing his keen desire to try his luck in the Premier League.
This is especially true given the level of support the Premier League receives in his country. “Of course, one day, for sure, but for now, I have other plans in my career that I'm looking forward to. So, when the time comes, everyone knows,” he added.
An offensive tweet about Osimhen appeared early this season on Napoli's social media account, throwing his contract renewal into doubt. However, relations between the two sides quickly improved, and Osimhen signed a new agreement.
The striker's market value has soared as reports suggested he included a $141 million release clause in his latest contract. With eight goals in 18 appearances this year, the Partenopei star continues to be a dangerous force.
This is an impressive performance after last season scoring a record 31 goals in 39 games for the Italian powerhouse. He was a crucial component in winning the previous Serie A championship.
