The former president got 50%, and there was no clear second place.
The race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination is over.
That's according to Scott Rasmussen, whom the Just the News report described as a “prominent pollster and political analyst.”
These comments came after President Donald Trump's landslide victory on Monday in the Iowa caucuses. He won 98 of the 99 counties, and is said to have lost that left-leaning county by one vote.
According to the president, Rasmussen told John Solomon Reports that “the race is over.”
“You know, if Trump was with 40, and DeSantis was with 30, and Haley was with 20, well, I would say maybe something is going on here. But there is no clear second option.”
The results saw Trump receiving 51% of the votes, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received 21.2% and former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley received 19.2%.
“Not only did the former president get 50 percent of the vote, there was no clear second place,” Rasmussen explained.
Trump's margin of victory was said to be the largest in the history of the Republican Party in Iowa.
“According to Rasmussen, one of the big issues for voters in the upcoming primary states will be securing the southern border of the United States, which was a big issue in Trump’s 2016 election campaign,” the report said.
In fact, Rasmussen noted, “We think of national security as what happens abroad and foreign policy matters. But honestly, it's right here at home. This is what was the case with these voters. “I think there is also frustration that the political elite are not taking this seriously.”
Joe Biden, upon taking office, rescinded all of President Trump's border security plans, including construction of the border wall, his requirement that asylum seekers wait in Mexico for a decision, and more.
Furthermore, the message from the Biden administration has been that the country's southern border is open and anyone who comes will be eligible for financial and social benefits.
So millions have arrived since then, overwhelming even those cities that claimed to be “sanctuary” areas for illegal aliens.
