(Colorado Springs) – Get ready for Colorado Springs' first Indian Harvest Festival, taking place this weekend at Liberty High School. It will be a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, filled with delicious food and enchanting music. Event organizer Monika Celly and associate sponsor Seshu Velpuri give Loving Living Local a sneak peek ahead of the big event.
The Indian Harvest Festival is a unique cultural food festival that gives you another opportunity to immerse yourself in Indian culture and learn more about Indian harvest festivals. It is a unique festival and the first Indian Harvest Festival ever in Colorado.
Harvest festivals are those that occur at the main harvest time of a particular region. Each of India's 29 states celebrates the harvest festival at different times throughout the year, due to variation in climate and differences in the region's staple crop. Bihu, Pongal, Makar Sankranti, Lohri – the names and regions vary, but the significance of each is only one – to be thankful for the abundant harvest.
In addition to celebrating the rich traditions, vibrant colors and delicious flavors as most Indian festivals do, it will also commemorate the winter solstice.
