He added: “We tracked the missiles that fell in northern Iraq and northern Syria. “No U.S. personnel or facilities were targeted,” Adrienne Watson, spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council, said in a statement.

She added: “We will continue to evaluate the situation, but initial indicators indicate that this was a set of reckless and inaccurate strikes,” adding: “The United States supports Iraq’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.”
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said it also launched attacks against “perpetrators of terrorist operations” in Iran, including ISIS.
Earlier this month, ISIS claimed responsibility for two explosions that killed nearly 100 people at a memorial to Iranian Revolutionary Guard Commander Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone strike in 2020.
A statement by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said: “We assure our nation that the offensive operations of the Revolutionary Guard will continue until the last drops of blood of the martyrs are avenged.”
Iran has in the past carried out strikes in the mountainous Kurdistan region of northern Iraq, saying the region is used as a launching point for Iranian separatist groups as well as agents of its arch-enemy Israel.
Baghdad tried to address Iranian concerns, moving to transfer some groups as part of a security agreement reached with Tehran in 2023.
Iran has also vowed to avenge the killing of three members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Syria last month, including a senior commander who was serving as military advisers there.
Iran, which supports Hamas in its war with Israel, accuses the United States of supporting what it calls Israeli crimes in Gaza. The United States said it supports Israel in its campaign to eliminate Hamas, a banned terrorist group, but raised concerns about the number of Palestinian civilians killed.
More than 24,000 people were killed in the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli campaign.
The strikes come amid concerns about the escalation of the conflict that has spread across the Middle East since the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, killing about 1,200 people. Iran's allies from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen also entered the battle.
More than 130 fighters from the Iranian-backed Lebanese Hezbollah group were killed in the hostilities.
