Wind chill warning Tuesday morning
For us, it's still another brutal morning with a wind chill warning until noon. Wide area. So expect to see the temperature feel like between 20 and 35 below zero, especially before 10:00 AM when we start out this morning. Right now, it feels like 21 degrees below in Omaha, 20 degrees below in Lincoln, 28 degrees below in Beatrice, and 30 degrees below the lowest point in Creston. now. The skies were clear all night, allowing temperatures to drop below zero again for a couple of hours as well. We can see these temperatures dropping lower and lower in warmer Omaha at 4 below, all the way down to 8 below. You can see RED OAK and HARLAN as in 27 below. There's not terribly strong wind this morning. Fortunately, by the time it arrives this afternoon, it's hitting speeds of about 20 mph. The air temperature will actually reach above zero for the first time in more than 72 hours. One of the longest subzero stretches we've recorded here in Omaha. But we have a severe winter weather day code before noon with a wind chill warning in place and it feels like the temperature here in Omaha, will likely be between 20 and 25 below zero. Finally by noon or higher and then approaching ten degrees this afternoon. But still expect those feelings like temperatures between 5 and 10 below zero during the afternoon. But at least we'll see that sunshine all day. Not a cloud in the sky across Nebraska and Iowa. But again, if you have to drive this morning, expect the sun's glare to be reflected especially intensely on some of the snow still on the roads. However, look west, off the coast of Canada and the Pacific Northwest. Next storm system, our next chance for snow accumulation. So we're watching Thursday afternoon and evening now. We seem to have gotten nowhere from a trace or dusting of up to two inches of snow here in the Omaha metro. Much lighter snow compared to the storms we saw last week, but we are still monitoring the possibility of it impacting the Prime Minister's trip on Thursday. Most of us see at least some light blue snow here in the Omaha metro. Southwest Iowa, anywhere from a trace to two inches. Also down towards Beatrice and Falls. now. Lincoln Columbus Norfolk. There may be a smaller band that could generate some isolated spots between 2 and 4 inches, so over the next 48 hours, we'll be watching to see if we have to move that band at all. But at least for now, plan on snow in the evening, drive on Thursday and then follow up with another batch of cold air. Severe winter weather days Friday and Saturday. The temperature on Friday morning is well below zero. We will likely see wind chills near 30 below zero and with clear skies and depending on how much snow we get, we could see Saturday morning lows drop to near 20 below zero.
