Due to high winds, poor visibility and ice, there are major road closures throughout the area. The Causeway Bridge is closed at this time. Police say this will be closed until at least sunrise. Leaders say the drawbridge was the first to experience icy conditions and that was their main concern. In St. Tammany Parish, there is also an accident on I-12 that closed the westbound lanes at Mile Marker 47. I-10 was closed to traffic on the Mississippi state line in both the eastbound and westbound lanes due to an accident. The congestion reached three miles. LISTEN: State Police provide update on closed roads: In Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes, State Police closed US 90. In St. John the Baptist Parish, the Bonnet Carre Spillway was closed in both directions due to icy roads. Congestion has reached Clearview Parkway. In St. Charles Parish, deputies are working a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 310 South at the top of the bridge. There is complete blockage of the path. There is ice on Interstate 310. The Hill Boggs Bridge has reopened. In Jefferson Parish, ice was discovered on the northbound LA 23 lanes of the Belle Chasse Bridge, also known as the “old” Belle Chasse Bridge. The northbound Belle Chasse Bridge is closed. In St. James Parish, the Veterans Memorial Bridge, in Gramercy, was closed to traffic in both directions due to unsafe driving conditions. The Bayou Chevreuil Bridge in Vacherie remains open at this time. The Sunshine Bridge in St. Louis has reopened. James/Convent.
