    Lockheed Martin opens Future Satellite Operations Center test bed

    The Operations Center of the Future is a digital-first reimagining of satellite operating capabilities

    Littleton, Colorado, September 11, 2023 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) today announced the opening of its Future Operations Center, a technology test bed showcasing how future satellite operators will be able to manage multiple space missions simultaneously using infrastructure Secure, web-based cloud.

    Lockheed Martin's self-funded future operations center, located on the company's campus near Denver, Colorado, uses proven Compass™ Mission Planning and Horizon™ Command and Control (C2) software. This program has already flown more than 50 spacecraft and conducted government, research and commercial space missions. A robust ground system allows individual satellites – or entire constellations of similar or very different satellite types – to be managed by a single operator at the same time, from virtually anywhere.

    “The next-generation artificial intelligence, automation and cloud capabilities of the Operations Center of the Future enable operators to stay closer to the mission than ever before, regardless of their physical location,” said Maria Demare, vice president and general manager of National Security at Lockheed Martin Aerospace. Space works. “Remote operators can receive timely mission alerts about satellite operations instantly, then log in securely to make smart, quick decisions from virtually anywhere.”

    The innovative test bed first proved its concept of operations earlier this year with the successful flight of the company's LM LINUSS™ Upgrade Satellite System (LM LINUSS™), which demonstrated how small satellites can help upgrade and sustain space architectures with new capabilities.

    The center's automation and artificial intelligence/machine learning capabilities allow it to manage satellite constellations of almost any size. The flexibility of the center allows for minimal staffing requirements as operators can use the same basic software regardless of the mission, enabling “lights out” operations by providing the speed and flexibility of remote operation.

    The Future Operations Center is also expected to command and control the company's upcoming Pony Express 2, TacSat and LM 400 missions for in-orbit technology demonstrations.
