CES 2024 was a success on many levels for a number of manufacturers and it's clear that the show will have a slightly different focus in the coming years. The auto show has taken some pressure off the main traffic at LVCC and it has become fairly clear that the convergence of technology and transportation is going to be a big focus at this show.
Display technology remains an important part of CES, and LG was one of the biggest players at CES 2024.
LG gave us a sneak preview of its 2024 QNED and OLED TV product lines ahead of the show, but it kept its cards close to the box when it comes to what's new The distinctive transparent OLED T Series TV.
Backstory
LG's sister company, LG Display, has been making transparent OLED video displays for a few years, but with a fairly clear focus on the commercial sector; One can find them in retail locations and even airports.
What makes transparent TV screens or displays different is that in addition to the images displayed on the screen, viewers can also see what is behind the screen. It's like having a window that you can view images on.
Users can create a 3D image with a fixed background behind the screen as well as animated images on the screen.
advice: Skyworth also displayed a transparent OLED TV prototype at its booth, which was likely sourced from LG Display.
advice: Samsung showed off a Micro OLED transparent display concept at CES, but the actual product is still a few years away.
LG OLED T
Operational features that support consumer-friendly operation include:
Transparent mode: Objects displayed on the screen when in transparent mode appear to float in the air. Through the transparent effect, the screen content blends with the surrounding space, creating a stunning visual effect. This is ideal for artwork, videos or photos using Always On Display (AOD) feature..
complementary feature (T bar) also provides an information bar that runs along the bottom of the screen. The T-Bar displays news alerts, weather updates, or song titles while the rest of the screen displays a clear view of the space behind it.
Dark mode: If you want to view content, such as movies or shows just like on most TVs, simply switch the T Series to opaque mode. The back panel rises and turns the TV into a traditional-looking set.
Zero wireless communication box: Inspired by LG's successful M series of TVs, the T series includes a Zero Connect Box. Unlike the vast majority of TVs, where all the input ports for connecting external devices are on the back or sides, the T Series comes with a separate Zero Connect box that sends video and audio signals wirelessly to the TV. This means the Zero Connect box eliminates cable clutter from your TV providing greater installation flexibility, and creating a cleaner look for your viewing space.
advice: The T Series also includes 4K UHD display resolution, an Alpha 11 AI processor, WebOS, gaming support, and many more features you'll find in the best LG smart TVs.
The OLED T Series has a built-in down-firing speaker system.

What we thought
We spent some time looking at the LG Transparent OLED TV and felt it was very effective at achieving a number of goals; Especially in a huge showroom with somewhat uneven lighting conditions.
Both transparent and opaque modes work as advertised, and the decision to use the Zero Connect Box will make it much easier to integrate into home environments.
Will this change the future of television in the home? We believe it will create new opportunities for creative artists and smart marketers for many years to come.
When can you buy it?
The LG Signature T series will initially come in a 77-inch screen size. Detailed specifications, availability and pricing are still available, but LG is confident that the T Series will be available in late 2024.
