Senator Rand Paul reiterated his view that Dr. Anthony Fauci should go to prison.
The senator cited US-funded gain-of-function research at a laboratory in Wuhan, China.
In an interview Sunday on “The Cats Roundtable” on WABC-AM in New York, the Kentucky Republican accused Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, of contributing to the deaths of “between 10 and 20 million” people in the COVID-19 pandemic. .
“He was not held accountable for this at all. This is probably the worst decision a public health official has ever made in the history of time,” Paul told host John Catsimatidis on Sunday.
“Because of his dishonesty, frankly, he should go to prison. If you lie to Congress, and you're dishonest, you won't be held accountable,” the senator said.
“Now the error in judgment,” said Paul, “is to be ridiculed.” “It should never be accepted.
“He should be judged by history as an imperfect person who made one of the worst decisions in the history of public health — in the entire history of the world.”
The conversation begins at the five-minute mark below:
After several fiery exchanges with Fauci during his various testimony before Congress, Paul filed a criminal referral for perjury with the Department of Justice last year over Fauci's comments about funding “gain-of-function” research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
This is not the first time that Paul has demanded that Fauci, who served as chief medical advisor in the White House for President Joe Biden, be brought to justice.
In an interview on Fox News in October, he said the 83-year-old should “without a doubt” spend some time behind bars.
“We now have proof of Anthony Fauci’s words, and we have his emails,” the senator said. “In public, he says, 'Oh, if you say it came from a lab, you're a conspiracy theorist, you're crazy, it's a fringe theory.'
“But he secretly says…” We are very concerned because it appears that the virus has been manipulated. We are also very concerned because we know that they are doing research on gain of function in Wuhan.

Paul, a doctor who practiced ophthalmology before being elected to the Senate, wrote a book about Fauci and America's response to the Covid-19 pandemic called “Deception: The Great Covid Cover-up.”
“We deserve to know what happened,” he said at the time. “I think the book will go a long way in convincing the rest of America that this man was a traitor to his country.”
Meanwhile, Fauci has rejected calls for his prosecution as “insanity.”
“I mean, you're prosecuting me for what? What are they talking about or what are they talking about? I mean, I wish I could find out what they were talking about. I think they're going off the deep end,” he said during an appearance on CNN in March.
“It doesn't make sense for us to say something like that, and it's actually irresponsible.”
