King Frederick X of Denmark was announced as the new head of Europe's oldest monarchy during a day of pomp in Copenhagen.
The former Crown Prince, who is 55 years old, officially assumed his duties, succeeding his mother, Queen Margaret II. The nation was stunned On New Year's Eve, when she announced her decision to abdicate after 52 years on the throne.
