SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News Storm Team's Weather Watch remains in effect Friday evening as heavy rain and winds once again make their way through our area. Along with rain, it also brings the chance of flooding and storm damage that residents should be aware of.
Here in Western Massachusetts, we can't catch a break from the wet weather as another tour heads to the area. The current weather situation is leaving some residents suffering from winter fatigue.
“Cold, very windy, and stinging!” “I will say I'm getting more used to it, but it's still hard to manage,” expressed Stephanie Lutz of West Springfield. “I don't like snow! I'm a Florida native, naturally. I'm not used to snow. It's a pain to shovel and get snowed in!
While ice can be painful. So can rain! This latest winter storm is expected to bring heavy rain and winds to the area that could cause flooding and storm damage.
With consecutive wet weather, home experts warn that all that snowmelt and rain could be a problem for your property. Not only can this flood your basement, but your roof can also suffer water damage, they advise.
“People don't realize that roofs leak, they're not waterproof,” David Miner, of Exterior Home Improvements in Holyoke, told 22News. “So, when we had 12 inches of snow and 4 inches of rain, it would soak in and come back in and get in.” People's homes.
Miner recommends homeowners clear their gutters and make sure their roofs are clear of snow before any storm to help prevent water damage. Using a snow rake to remove snow from your roof is also another preventative measure.
