Another round of rain and gusty winds is set to hit the Bay Area starting late Friday, with heavy rain arriving from the atmospheric river on Saturday, forecasters said.

The system moving over the Bay Area will bring light rain Friday night that will transition to moderate rain across the region during the day, the National Weather Service said.

Rainfall will be greatest in the North Bay, with two to three inches possible in the coastal ranges and one to one and a half inches in the valleys. The Santa Cruz Mountains could also see an inch or two, while other locations in the Bay Area will likely see a half inch or less.

According to KPIX Chief Meteorologist Paul Hegen, models indicate the upcoming atmospheric river will be rated as AR-2 on a scale of 1 to 5.

The system will also bring more heavy snow to the Sierra, making travel to and from the mountains difficult starting early Saturday morning.

A storm tide has prompted a coastal flood watch for areas within San Francisco Bay on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and minor flooding is expected in low-lying, flood-prone areas near the bay shore, the weather service said.

The meteorological services said that winds are expected to be strong to active along the coast across most of the gaps and passes in the region as well as the hills.

On Friday, daytime highs will be in the 50s in the Bay Area. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s on the coast, 40s around the Gulf, and upper 30s inland. A frost warning for the Bay Area and Central Coast expired at 10 a.m

On Saturday, high temperatures will rise and will be mostly in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. Overnight temperatures should remain seasonally warm as well with lows generally in the 40s.

Meteorologists said the rain was likely to continue until Sunday morning and the region would see mostly clear skies until further light rain on Wednesday.
